BioCell Collagen II
BioCell has been the focus of two double-blind placebo controlled studies and addresses one of the common denominators in aging: loss of connective tissue that helps to give form and structure by acting as a "filler agent" and providing volume. BioCell influences factors that affect skin elasticity and volume, as well as improving skin texture and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
As we age, sun exposure and factors such as the decline in hormones cause a sharp drop in our internal concentrations of hyaluronic acid (HA). Many researchers today believe that if we could maintain or increase our levels of HA, we would prevent many of the outward signs of aging such as wrinkles and sagging skin. A breakthrough technology, BioCell reduces and combines the HA molecule with other constituents of connective tissue into a natural matrix. Taken orally, BioCell is easily absorbed by the body. It is the most potent and well-documented substance of this type shown to increase internal stores of HA and visibly improve the appearance of skin.
Alpha Lipoic Acid
Alpha lipoic acid is a powerful antioxidant that offers a tremendous advantage in that it is both fat and water-soluble. It has been shown to mimic the effects of Vitamins C and E and it can protect and enhance levels of C and E. However, in general it is effective against a far broader range of free radicals than either C or E. Lipoic acid is also critical to your cells' ability to produce energy in the mitochondria (the principle site of the generation of cellular energy). Because of its role in cellular metabolism and its powerful ability to fight free radicals, lipoic acid is believed to assist in helping the skin to repair existing damage and to protect against the appearance of future damage.
CoEnzyme Q10 is a natural substance produced by your body that plays a major role in cellular energy. Medical research indicates that it may have tremendous value in prolonging lifespan. It also functions as a powerful antioxidant. Levels of this critical element begin to decline in our 20's and are found to be substantially lower when an individual is ill or even after ultraviolet radiation exposure (sun exposure). It is believed that due to CoEnzyme Q10's powerful antioxidant benefits, systematic oral administration can reduce the appearance of wrinkling and can assist in creating a more youthful appearance of the skin.
Proanthocyanidins are part of a group of plant flavonoids that provide many health-promoting benefits. Among the effects studied are the ability to decrease capillary permeability and fragility, scavenge free radicals, and inhibit the destruction of collagen. Collagen comprises over 80% of the dermis and is the skin's critical support system. Proanthocyanidins produce remarkable positive benefits because they can reinforce the natural cross-linking of collagen and inhibit collagen breakdown caused by inflammatory processes and infections. There is also strong evidence that proanthocyanidins have a measurable effect on microvascular disorders (micro blood vessel disorders) such as telangiectasia (dilated capillaries), rosacea or solar-related blood vessel damage.
Vitamin C supports the manufacture of collagen, and is critical to immune function and the absorption and utilization of nutritional factors. It also works as an antioxidant in water-soluble environments inside and outside human cells.
Ascorbyl palmitate is a lipid soluble form of Vitamin C that can reside in both the water soluble and fat-soluble compartments of the cell membrane. Ascorbyl palmitate has been shown to stabilize and protect the cell membrane and assist in reversing many aspects of cellular damage.
Vitamin E plays a major role in age-related degenerative diseases. Studies indicate that Vitamin E can slow the aging process by acting as a powerful antioxidant and anti-carcinogen.
Evening Primrose Oil
(Essential Fatty Acids) Evening primrose oil plays a major role in the body's manufacturing of prostaglandins, which are hormone-like substances that regulate all of the body's functions. Studies indicate that the addition of certain essential fatty acids may help to improve and prevent dry skin, cracked nails and dry brittle hair.
Carotenoids are potent antioxidants and free radical scavengers. Carotenoids are converted into active Vitamin A, which is essential for growth and maintenance of healthy skin. A common carotenoid is beta carotene. Our carotenoid complex contains a number of important carotenoids including beta carotene, alpha carotene, and lycopene.
Retinol (Vitamin A)
Retinol is critical in the development and maintenance of healthy skin. It is also beneficial in the treatment of many skin conditions.
Selenium is an essential trace mineral that works with Vitamin E in preventing free radical damage to cell membranes. Studies also indicate that selenium may improve skin conditions such as acne and seborrheic dermatitis.
Silica dioxide is necessary to make bones, cartilage and connective tissue. In one study, ultrasound examination showed that silica supplementation increased the thickness of the dermis.
Zinc is involved in more enzymatic reactions than any other mineral and is essential to good health and skin. Several double-blind studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of zinc in the treatment of acne.
Glucosamine is a key structural (cartilage) component that may promote the manufacture of substances necessary for proper joint function and repair.
Vitamin B (Thiamine)
Vitamin B is essential for energy production, carbohydrate metabolism and nerve cell function.
Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)
Vitamin B2 is involved in regenerating glutathione, one of the main cellular protectors against free radical damage.
Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine)
Vitamin B6 is required for proper functioning of over 60 different enzymes. It is critical to proper immune function, mucous membranes, skin and red blood cells.
Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin)
Vitamin B12 plays a critical role in energy, metabolism, immune function and nerve function.
Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide)
Vitamin B3 is essential in the production of energy. Vitamin B3 helps to regulate antioxidant mechanisms and detoxification reactions.
Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid)
Vitamin B5 is beneficial for utilization of fats and carbohydrates in energy production, and in the manufacture of adrenal hormones and red blood cells.
Folic acid facilitates reactions such as the manufacture of DNA and brain transmitters. It helps to reduce levels of homocysteine, a compound implicated in the development of heart disease.
Biotin functions in the manufacture and utilization of fats and amino acids. It also promotes strong nails, and healthy hair and skin.
